TOUR MARRED

YOUNG AUSTRALIANS IN CANADA. DEATH OF MEMBER OF PARTY'. Montreal, April 19. A message from Toronto states that William Strachan, aged® seventeen, of Brisbane, a member of the young Australians’ party, died in hospital of pneumonia. John West, aged eighteen, of Victoria, is at present in hospital suffering from influenza.— Australian Press Association. INVESTIGATION CARRIED OUT. FORM OF BLOOD POISONING. (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Ottawa, April 20. A report from Niagara Falls states that an investigation into the death of William Strachan of the Young Australians’ Party, is being carried out by Dr. W. J. Bell, Deputy Minister of Health, who went there from Toronto in response to urgings by local health officers to determine what caused the sudden death. He stated that it was due to a streptococcus germ, a form of blood poisoning.

Strachan’s death compared somewhat with the deaths of five persons recently stricken in Elfrid township near London (Ontaro). It is believed that the latter were victims of the same rare germ. William Kremmer, Strachan’s companion, has been placed in quarantine. Officials in charge of the group said that all were in good health save John West, who was sent to hospital with throat trouble. The group planned to continue their tour to-morrow’. Strachan’s body was immediately buried on the orders of the Health Department.—Australian Press Association. ■
