CAPTAIN DEWAR’S APPOINTMENT.
(Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, April 18. To-day’s list of Naval appointments contains the following: Captain K. G. Dewar to the Iron Duke in command, to date from May 11. —British Official Wireless.
Captain Dewar was one of the officers concerned in the Royal Oak affair in March last year. He was tried by court-martial on charges (11 of accepting and forwarding a letter subversive of discipline; and (2) of accepting and forwarding a letter contrary to the King's regulations and Admiralty’ instructions. Captain Dewar was found guilty on the first charge and the second was “not proven.” He was dismissed from the ship and severely reprimanded In September there was an interesting sequel, the Admiralty having made the announcement that Captain Dewar had been appointed to. command the battle cruiser Tiger. It . was stated at the time that the appointment was a generous act of grace on the part of the Admiralty and was probably unprecedented.
