The engineer reported as follows:—Since last meeting the weather has been excellent for road work. This month alone has so far had 20 consecutive fine »days in the Otautau District and good progress is being made with metalling work. There are one or two exceptions, where no progress is being made, one contractor on the Wreys Bush —Mossburn Road has done nothing the last three weeks and the contractor on the remaining gap on the Gummies Bush—Ermedale Road is making a poor showing. Among the more important works completed are McNeill Road, now metalled right through from Flints Bush to Calcium. The bad gap on the Scotts Gap Road is now metalled. Moffatt and Forbes Road, Orawia, and Clark Rond, Drummond, are completed from end to end and the gaps on Terrace Road, Alton and Happy Valley Road, Tuatapere, are now finished. Several other roads will be completed right through next summer. In connection with the request of the Southland Motor Association concerning a proposed foreshore bridge over the Waimatuku Stream, Councillor Linscott -met the representatives of the Southland County Council on the 16th inst. and made an inspection of what appears to be the only site at this place. As a result of this conIference the Southland County Engineer will report as to cost at a later date. In connection with the Aparima motor grader I would ’recommend that this grader be fitted with a scarifier attachment and this would greatly increase the usefulness of this- machine., - -
