COAL DISPUTE

CHALLENGE TO THE OWNERS.

(Rec. 8.55 p.m.) Sydney, April 18. The Coal Miners’ Federation issued a statement at the conclusion of the coal conference to-day when negotiations for a settlement of the dispute completely broke down. The federation declares that it is quite apparent that the owners will agree to re-opening the mines only on their own terms, to which the miners will not agree. The federation reiterated their challenge to the owners for a searching inquiry into the coal industry. —Australian Press Association.
