DARING BANDITS
DAYLIGHT HOLD-UP IN NEW YORK.
SUBSTANTIAL HAUL MADE.
New York, April 17.
One of the boldest daylight hold-ups in the memory of the Police Department occurred to-day when five bandits, armed with revolvers and sawed-off shot-guns, intercepted a taxi-cab and peppered it with shot, shooting a policeman through the head and a pay-roll guard less seriously. After the shooting the bandits escaped in an automobile with 382,392 dollars, constituting the pay-roll of the Bell Telephone Company, near whose offices, down town in New York City, the robbery occurred. —• Australian Press Association.
