PROTECTIVE TARIFFS

CONFERENCE OF FARMERS AND MANUFACTURERS.

Auckland, April 18,

The third conference between representatives of the Auckland Farmers’ Union and Auckland Manufacturers’ Association on the subject of protective tariffs was held last evening. Mr George Finn, representing the manufacturers, said that at the end of the discussion he believed they could eventually reach a common platform. He invited the members of the Farmers’ Union to make a tour of the industrial enterprises in the city. Mr A. A. Ross, president of the Farmers’ Union, invited the members of the association or Chamber of Commerce to attend the forthcoming Farmers’ Union conference when they might gain a deeper insight into the feelings of the farmers and the problems they had to face.
