IN TOWN AND OUT
NEWS OF THE DAY. Municipal Poll. The total number of names on the Invercargill municipal roll, including the supplementary roll, is 10,181. * * * Sportmen’s Votes Lost. In the course of his remarks at the closing of nominations yesterday Councillor O’Byrne said that it was regrettable that the elections had been fixed for May 1. On that day a good many sportsmen would be away duck shooting and their v’otes would not be recorded. Late Again. The through express from Christchurch which was due at Invercargill at 9.2 last night did not arrive until 9.45. A number of people who were at the railway station at the appointed time were subjected to a long wait, but they were fortunate that weather conditions were very mild.
Junior High Schools. In the light of recent controversies it is interesting to note the attitude of the primary school teachers to junior high schools. At a meeting of the local branch of the N.Z.E.I. held last Monday, consideration was given to a motion from the Masterton branch condemning the junior high school system. The Blenheim teachers, on the other hand, passed a resolution favouring that system.
