THEFT AT GORE
BOARDER’S ROOM ENTERED.
YOUNG MAN BEFORE COURT.
A young man named John Murray was charged by the police, before Messrs A. Martin and A. A. Mac Gibbon, Justices of the Peace, at the Gore Court yesterday with the theft of 32/-, the property of E. H. Scherp. The accused pleaded guilty. Sergeant Packer stated the accused had attended a dance on Wednesday night, and had obtained some liquor. He went to his hotel shortly after 1 o’clock in the morning. In passing the bedroom of a boarder be noticed the door was open, and he went in and found the occupant asleep. The accused then abstracted 32/- from the trousers pocket. Later he came back and was just going to go through the coat pockets when the boarder awoke and a rough and tumble ensued. The man was certainly under the influence of liquor. The police were sent for,' and the accused taken in charge. The accused was fined £5, and the money stolen was ordered to be returned. Time was given in which to pay the fine at the rate of £1 per week.
