MOTOR RACING
SPORTS AT ORETI BEACH. Patrons of the motor races at Oreti Beach on Saturday afternoon are promised something out of the ordinary in speed thrills for the final meet of the Southland Motor Cycle Association. Those who attended the grass-track racing at Rugby Park got an idea of what balance and manipulation meant in motor cycle racing, but beach racing with straight laps, is calculated to give even greater thrills. Here the contestants can open their machines right out and literally set the beach on fire. There is more of a racing aspect in beach racing. It is by no means an innovation, but as the men have improved with experience, the sport is certain to be of a high standard. Excellent entries have been received, both from local and visiting competitors. There will also be motor car races, when budding Segraves will have an opportunity to show their paces in speed and handling. An inter-provincial aspect will be provided with competition from Dunedin motorists. Summed up, the sports on Saturday should not be missed, and given a fine day a record crowd is anticipated. The authorities have shortened the usual laps so that the public will be enabled to sec the racing from starting point to winning post.
