SALVATION ARMY
GENERAL’S CHAMPION
LINK WITH NEW ZEALAND.
London, February 5.
For some time, says the Daily Mail, it has been clear to the public that the championship of General Bramwell Booth against the High Council of the Salvation Army has been undertaken by a competent and vigorous personality. He Is Mr. G. A. Pollard, a prominent city man, who for many years was chief .secretary and chancellor of the exchequer at International Headquarters of the Salvation Army. He severed his connection with the Salvation Army 25 years ago, but when he realized that General Booth was fighting a battle single-handed from a sick bed against the High Council he considered it his duty to help, particularly as he was actively concerned in the drafting of the deed of 1904, round the provisions of which the controversy rages.
The energy and enthusiasm of Mr. Pollard can be gauged from the fact that it was he whom General William Booth sent to New Zealand w’ith less than £3O in his pocket to establish the army in that country. Today the property of the army in New Zealand is valued at well over £1,000,000.
