SYDNEY HARBOUR

MORE YYHIARFAGE NEEDED.

Sydney, March 15

The increasing needs of shipping is having a noticeable effect upon the conformation of Sydney Harbour. Had it not been for improvements in wheat-loading at YVhite Bay, where the great silos were recently completed and up-to-date facilities provided, the congestion to-day would have been a great problem. The facilities have enabled shipowners to load their vessels within a few hours and make room for other ships, but it seems certain that the Harbour Trust Commissioners will very shortly have to face the problem of providing more berths. One misses the big ships that used to pull into Circular Quay and now have gone to M r oolloomooloo Bay, but even YY r oolloomooloo Bay is becoming too crowded, say the experts. YVith Darling Harbour, Dawe’s Point, Miller’s Point, and Jones’ Bay also congested one wonders where the commissioners are going to build more wharves unless on the north side of the harbour.
