VAGRANT VERSE

THE THREE TREES. (Written for the Southland Times.) Three trees stood on. a hill. The three I called Faith, Hope and Charity. When I was youth, in callous pride I did not grieve the third that died. A man, I gave a passing frown when I beheld the first cut down. And old, I’m only half aware that now the second lingers there. —Shaun O’Sullivan. Invercargill, April 16, 1929.
