The Hon. D. 11. Drummond and Mrs Drummond travelled to Dunedin by the afternoon express yesterday.

At Tuesday's meeting of the Southland Ladies’ Hockey Association, Mr L. S. O'Sullivan was elected president of that body. Miss Wilkie arrived by the express from Christchurch on Tuesday evening to Conduct a series of demonstrations for Matheson’s, Ltd.

Mr A. J. Middlemlss, of Gore, has been nominated by the executive of the Gore Labour Party for the position of provincial representative on the National Executive.

Mr C. E. Barnes, business agent, New Zealand Railways South Island branch, arrived in Invercargill yesterday on departmental business.

Mr J. A. Lindsay, chief clerk in the district railways traffic manager’s office, who has been spending a month’s furlough in the north, resumes his duties to-day. Mr J. C. Pope, who has been for the past six years on the .staff of the Southland Electric Power Board at Gore has been appointed to a position as organizing salesman with Mr R. S. Lange.

Mr A. 11. Aitken, of Gore, has been nominated as a candidate for membership on the Bluff Harbour Board for the combined district of the Boroughs of Gore and Mat aura.

Mr Thomas Taylor left Gore yesterday with a view to spending the winter months at Christchurch. It is more than probable that Mr Taylor will join a bowling party to the South Sea Islands and Honolulu before his return south.

Mr W. H. Woodward, who has recently returned from the position of resident judge in Samoa, is expected to arrive in Invercargill this evening tq succeed Mr J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M. Mr Woodward will preside in the Magistrate's Court here for several months.

Mr Walter Gee has been nominated for the South Ward in connection with the Borough Council elections at Gore. He was nominated by Dr. and Mrs J. E. Rogers, Mesdames A. F. Cochrane and B. V. Dolarr-ore, and Messrs J. W. Nicholson and W. D. Shelton.

Mr C. Bennet, of Gore, has been nominated by the following for the district seat on the Power Board: Messrs Dennis Dunn, G. B. Paterson, E. V. Hunt, James Blaikie. R. Robinson and S. Nicokon (Gore), John Spittle (East Gore>, Herbert Walton, William Heslin and Thomas McGillivray (Mataura).

Mr Stanley Smith, managing director, Evening Star Company, Dunedin, accompanied by Mrs Smith and Mr Smith's sister, who visited Invercargill to attend the wedding of their son, Mr George B. Smith, and Phyllis N. Ingram, yesterday, are remaining in Southland for a few days. They expect to return to Dunedin by car on Saturday. Miss Lorna Smith and Mr David Smith, secretary to the Evening Star Company, sister and brother of Mr George Smith, returned to Dunedin by the afternoon express yesterday.

Mr D. A. Baillie, who has been postmaster at Mataura for the past two years, and leaves about the end of the week to take up his duties in a similar capacity at Lumsden, was the recipient of a presentation from the Mataura staff. In making the presentation of a fountain pen, Mr V. H. Ball expressed the regret of his fellow’ workers at the departure of Mr Baillie, who had at all times been ready to impart his experience and knowledge to those under him. As a result the staff had derived no small benefit. Mr Baillie thanked the staff for their sentiments and gift.
