PLAY AT DUNEDIN CHAMPIONSHIP FOUR- • SOMES CONCLUDED OTAGO PLAYERS WIN AMATEUR EVENT (Per United Press Association.) Dunedin, October 15. After a week-end of hail and rain there was an improvement in the weather when play in the golf championship was resumed to-day. It was showery all day, but there was no wind. The fairways and greens were all improved by the rain and to-day players played with more confidence. It was a quiet 'day. The championships foursomes for both amateurs and professionals was the programme. The Otago players, K. Ross and C. B. Wight, scored a popular win in the, amateurs and A. J. Shaw and J. A. Clements in the professionals. The scores averaged as follows:

A foursome is always a hard game and the scores returned by the five leading pairs of amateurs and the three leading pairs of professionals were very creditable, reflecting a high standard of golf. To equal par as the Galloways did in their first round was a classy performance as was that of the Black Brothers, who were only one over par. The above-mentioned playerg slipped strokes in the afternoon, really playing too carefully. Interest is increasing in the amateur championships. Dr. Ross and Sloan Morpeth are equal favourites and justifiably so, as in their play there is little if anything between them and the doctor has a perfect local knowledge to assist against Morpeth’s brilliance. Horton and Sime are equal second favourites, and close on them is Goss. Mclntosh and Shaw are equal favourites among the professionals. With no further rain and a still day to-morrow, there should be -a display of golf in keeping with the
