MASSACRE OF CHINESE
EARLIER REPORT CONFIRMED. MOSLEM VENGEANCE. (Rec. 5.5. p.m.) Shanghai, October 13. The reported massacre in the Kansu province of 200,000 Chinese by Moslems emanated from New York through the Famine Relief Commission and is now confirmed. Pekin despatches to-day are the first local news received. The trouble commenced in June, following the failure of Moslem delegates to secure from the provincial authorities a reduction in taxes. A general Moslem uprising fol lowed. The slain are estimated in Ipcal reports at 100,000 instead of 200,000. The districts affected are in the neighbourhood of Hanchow. The misery of the population is increased bv failure of the corps. Famine is unavoidable.—Australian Press Association.
