CANADIAN MINISTER
APPOINTMENT IN JAPAN. Ottawa, October 11. The first task of the Premier, Mr Mackenzie King, on his return from Europe, will be to name the first Canadian Minister to Japan. It is understood that Dr James H. King, a Cabinet Minister, has been offered and has refused the post. Sir Campbell Sturt is also mentioned. Ottawa is curious over despatches urging him for the job—one from Washington and the other from Tokio. It is extremely doubtful if he could be appointed. Mr Laurent Beaudry, counsellor of the Department of External Affairs, is suggested.—Australian Press Association.
