OPTIMISTIC NOTE
BRITISH INDUSTRY UNPRECEDENTED ERA DAWNING (SPIRIT OF CO-OPERATION (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) (Rec. 11.5 .m.) London, October 12. Mr. Baldwin made optimistic reference to the new era in British industry in an address to Sheffield cutlers. The fact that trade unions were purging the Labour movement of the seditious element* and the successful progress of the Industrial Peace Conference, he said, indicate the dawn of a new unprecedented era of co-operation. It is being recognized that no Government alone can bring prosperity to industry. It is a fallacy to think depressed industry can be saved by cutting down selling organizations and advertising. Mr Baldwin hoped there would soon be some qualifying test, for directors. A modern employer neglecting the work of the people was guilty of a crime against the community because he was fostering the very spirit of discontent which inevitably would lead to unrest. A small minority of such employers could breed an atmosphere of suspicion throughout the whole country.—Australian Press Association.
