SCHOOL CHILDREN ON TRAINS.

To the Editor. Sir,—May I crave a small portion of your valuable space to endeavour to right a wrong. There seem to be several people who are deliberately setting out to equip the secondary school train pupils with horns, tail and-er hooves and toasting fork. Now, don’t mistake me; I am not referring to Mr Jones. A correspondent in Tuesday’s paper states that Mr Jones has a great future before him. That may be so, but that has nothing to do with the behaviour of the school children on trains. Mr Jones has complained of being almost called a liar by “Izay.” I am sure that “Izay” did not intend it to be taken thys, and it must be an uneasy feeling that what has been attributed to him is not true, that has made Mr Jones cry out so loudly. It is my opinion that Mr Jones has been falsely informed by someone else of the children’s conduct on the trains. 1 have travelled at different times on all the main Southland lines and never have I seen any signs of bad conduct. The children have always behaved in an extremely courteous manner. When this controversy started 1 spoke to several of the guards, and they all verified my opinion. Why then do these people try to convince us that black is white? “There are none so blind as those who will not see.” Yea verily, verily, and their heads can be likened unto a lump of wood. There perhaps is some consolation in being one of the few who refuse to be enlightened, but it is a very obscure one. In their inmost hearts these people know that they are in the wrong, but fear of ridicule keeps them from acknowledging their error Eke men.— I am, etc., “JUSTICE.” Riverton, October 10, 1928.
