GENERAL ELECTION
TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 14. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, October 10. Following a meeting of Cabinet to-day, the Prime Minister announced that the general election would be held on Wednesday, November 14. THE OAMARU SEAT. Oamaru, October 10. A definite decision to contest the Oamaru seat as an United Party candidate was announced to-day by Mr J. A. Macpherson, who represented Oamaru as Nationalist from 1U22 to 1925. THE MID-CANTERBURY SEAT REFORM CANDIDATE’S ADDRESS. Ashburton, October 10. Mr David Jones, Reform candidate for Mid-Canterbury, addressed a meeting tonight. He claimed that the Reform Government represented Labour better than any Labour Government in the Empire. Regarding finance, the interest on the war debt sinking fund amounted to practically the amount spent on public works last year so that but for war burdens borrowing could have ceased. He defended the Government’s land policy, but said that further development was essential. A vote of thanks was carried by acclamation.
