POULTRY SHOW
EASTERN DISTRICT SUCCESSES. CHAMPIONSHIPS TO J. BAXTER. Local and district fanciers met with some success at the Balclutha Poultry Show on Friday. The following are the details: Open Classes.—Sussex cockerel: E. W. Gilder (Gore) 2. Sussex pullet (4 entries) : E. W. Gilder 1. Brown Leghorn hen: J. Baxter (Seaward Downs) 1, special and South Island championship, R. Drysdale (Gore) 2. Pullet: R. Drysdale 1. Black Orpington cockerel: J. Baxter 1, special and South Island championship. Pallet: J. Baxter 2. All the entries in white Orpingtons were made by Mr A. B. Gilder (Gore). Mr E. W. Gilder competed successfully in the black Leghorn section (utility). Utility Classes.—Brown Leghorn cock: Calder McKenzie 1, L. H. Cuttriss 2. Hen: J. Baxter 1 and special. Pullet: E. W. Gilder 2 and 3. White Plymouth Rock cockerel (4 entries): R. Drysdale 3. Hen (4 entries): R. Drysdale 3. Pullet: R. Drysdale 3. Black Orpington pullet (10 entries): J. Baxter 1 and special. It is worthy of mention that Mr J. Baxter (Seaward Downs) won the cup for the best heavy breed in the utility section. Mr Baxter also won the open brown Leghorn and utility black Orpington championship of the South Island in good competition.
