WINTON NOTES

OBITUARY. MR ANDREW CHRYSTAL. Mr Andrew Chrystal died at his residence Meldrum street on Thursday afternoon. It was a sudden end. Mr Chrystal was about the town on Wednesday looking his usual self. The late Mr Chrystal was a man of sterling character, a good friend and a good husband and father and one thought of him always as one of nature’s gentlemen. He was one of the pioneers of the district. He was one of the best judges of horses in Southland and sent many over to Australia in his time. THE WEATHER.

About nine thirty on Thursday night snow commenced to fall and by the morning a few inches lay around about the town. The hills are covered and seem to have had a much heavier fall than the town. A heavy storm came on about nine a.m. on Friday morning, but only lasted for about twenty minutes.

The Borough Council has decided to fence the proposed Rose Garden next the post office.

This should be a great improvement and add to the beauty of our picturesque town. The electric light failed in the west portion of the town on Thursday night for about fifty minutes, also Friday night for fifteen minutes.
