THOSE WOWSERS!

To the Editor.

Sir, —Much indignation is felt among broad-minded members of the community at the narrow-minded attitude of a certain bection of the public which seems imbued with the idea that life is composed of penance, more penance and still more penance. The name of sportsmen throughout the English-speaking world is legion and I fail to see why certain people that wear the cloth of Christianity will persist in killing the legitimate pleasures of the people. I, as one of those who have devoted the greatest part of my leisure to encouraging social intercourse including the playing of a quiet and harmless game of cards for some good cause, cannot understand where we are lacking in Christian spirit and would like a reply from a salaried Christian teacher. Why should representations have been made that the law should be carried out so as to put an end to harmless enjoyment to help others?—l am, etc., LABOURITE.
