LEAGUE OF NATIONS

SOUTHLAND BRANCH OF UNION. The fortnightly meeting of the executive of the Southland branch of the League of Nations Union was held last evening, Mr G. Cruickshank presiding ever the following members: Messrs W. Macalister, P. Gilfedder, A. E. Featherstone, R. N. Todd, Rev. C. J. Tocker and G. R. Cooper (secretary). The secretary reported that 200 books dealing with the objects of the union had arrived from England. The consent of the Education Board had been obtained to distribute these books amongst the schools. Mr A. E. liatherstone was authorized to make arrangements for instruction on the work of the League of Nations in the schools.

It was decided to hold future meetings at North Invercargill, Avenal and South Invercargill.

It was resolved to make an effort to increase the membership of the union. Circulars would be distributed and a canvass made with this object in view. Members reported that they were receiving their literature regularly from London and they found the latest news of the work at Geneva most interesting.

It was suggested that the time was opportune for a further invitation being extended to speakers to lecture on the work of the League of Nations.
