Sinclair’s barn at the old Knowsley Park homestead on Wednesday, when there was a large gathering which included many visitors from Mataura and surrounding districts. The barn had received special attention and was gaily decorated for the occasion and with the colours of the ladies dresses the scene made a picturesque one. Excellent music was provided for the dancing by Mr A. W. Duncan, Mataura (violin) while Mr F. Arnold played very acceptable extras. The floor was under the capable management of Messrs J. Eden and S. H. Parker who kept things moving with a swing. During the evening a song was contributed by Mr A. W. Duncan. LAID TO REST. The remains of the late Mr James Edward Humphries, “Marairua,” Tuturau were laid in their last resting place in the Mataura cemetery yesterday. A short service was conducted at “Marairua” homestead by Mr B. G. Corlett, of Invercargill. A testimony to the popularity of the deceased was seen in the fact that some 30 motor cars followed to the cemetery. Mr Corlett conducted the service at the graveside.
