CABLE SERVICES

THE RECENT MERGER NATIONAL IMPORTANCE STRESSED TRAFFIC MUST BE RETAINED (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) (Rec. 7.15 p.m.) London, June 27. Mr J. C. Denison-Pender, managing director of the Eastern Telegraph Company, told shareholders of the Globe Telegraph and Trust Company that it was not only desirable, but of the utmost importance on national grounds, as well as in the interests of all concerned, that the merger should be carried out, thereby forming a British combination capable of holding its own with the great communication combines contemplated elsewhere. Despite cheaper wireless, cables still had a definite and important part in the world’s communications, but they could not afford to lose the traffic to wireless. —Australian Press Association— United Service.
