MOTOR CYCLE CLUB

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. A meeting of the Southland Motor Cycle Club executive was held in the Motor Association’s rooms on Tuesday evening, at which the following were present:—Mr T. M. Lucy (in the chair), Messrs J. M. Burt, E. W. Morrah, H. S. Jones, A. Tapper, M. M. Macdonald, R. T. Burt, J. G. Miller, C. Carr, R. A. Dunnage and C. Wren.

The secretary reported that the club now had cups and trophies of a value of approximately £5O, and that these had been insured.

Letters were received from the South Island Motor Union with reference to the quarterly meeting of delegates held in Timaru last week, and giving particulars of a scheme for supplying to all members a monthly journal. This would contain illustrations, current news, articles on motoring and kindred sports, tourist development and roads, reports of sports meetings, hotel li.ts, etc., and special club news every month. By means of the journal all members would be kept in closer touch with the club’s activities. It would be posted free to each member, the club paying a subsidy of 1/- per member per annum. The scheme was approved, and on the motion of the chairman it was unanimously decided to subscribe to the journal. A number of members spoke on the success of the recent reliability trial which had been an eye-opener for Southland, and for which the entry was one of the largest known in the South Island. A few suggestions were given for making the next event even more successful.

Eleven new members were elected, and the chairman remarked on the very satisfactory progress of the club. Since its com mencement in September, 1927, not a meeting had been held without additions, members being elected. The membership was now 171 including 46 in the Gore section.

A suggestion was made that the club should hold a paper-chase next month, following the intention of the South Canterbury M.C.C., but after full discussion it was thought better to hold this over until the summer, and the event will be included in next season’s programme.
