FARMERS’ UNION

COMMITTEE MEETS RESOLUTIONS DISCUSSED AND PASSED RECOMMENDATIONS TO GOVERNMENT (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, June 27. The Advisory Committee of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union met to-day, the president, Mr W. J. Polson, being in the chair. The committee supported and passed as resolutions the following remits:—That this conference strongly recommends to the Government that it be made compulsory that all dairy cattle be periodically examined and tested for T.B. by officers of the Stock Division and that when offered for sale to be accompanied by a tubercular test certificate and that for wrongfully condemned cattle full compensation be paid; that this conference is of the opinion that a veterinary course should be instituted at the Massey Agricultural College for the benefit of stock inspectors; that this conference urges the setting up of a committee to make full investigations into the reasons why the price of fertilisers is so much dearer in the South Island as against the price charged in the North Island; that the Government be requested to amend the Land Act so as to allow of the appointment of two representatives of Crown land tenants to the Land Boards also that the various land districts be dividfed into two wards, one representative to be elected to each ward; that as the cash on delivery system confers a great benefit to farmers, it is hoped that the Government will not under pressure discontinue this system but .extend it through New Zealand.
