LUMSDEN NOTES

HOCKEY. (From Our Correspondent.) a great deal of interest throughout the Northern District was taken in the match, Limsden v. Waikaia, which was played at Lumsden on Saturday. The result of the match in the first round was a draw, and as Saturday’s match had an important bearing on the position of the teams in the competition a keen tussle was to be expected. The large number of spectators were not disappointed and excitement prevailed until the final whistle blew. The weather was fine, but the ground was somewhat holding as a result of the recent fall of snow. The teams were evenly matched, the home side having the better of the game in the first spell, but the visitors equalized matters in the second half. The score was two all until within about two minutes of time when Waikaia broke through the defence to score the winning goal and the game ended—Waikaia 3, Lumsden 2. Goals were scored for the winners by J. Stirling, G. Wilson and E. McKee. For Lumsden, M. Small and C. Reidy were successful in registering goals. Messrs A. Heath and W. L. Hunter were referees. The teams were:

June 30 —Lumsden v. Balfour, at Balfour; Waikaia v. Pirates, at Waikaia; Riversdale v. Mossburn, at Riversdale. July 7 —Lumsden v. Riversdale, at Lumsden; Waikaia v. Mossburn, at Waikaia: Pirates v. Balfour, at Balfour.

July 14—Lumsden v. Mossburn, at Mossburn; Waikaia v. Balfour, at Waikaia; Riversdale v. Pirates, at Athol. July 21—Lumsden v. Pirates, at Lumsden; Waikaia v. Riversdale, at Riversdale; Balfour v. Mossburn, at Mossburn. July 28—Lumsden v. Waikaia, at Lumsden; Pirates v. Mossburn, at Athol; Riversdale v. Balfour, at Riversdale. The fixtures for the third grade competition are as follows:
