LICENSE CANCELLED

MAORI MOTORIST FINED. (Per United Press Association.) Gisborne, June 25. A young Maori motorist, named Rongo Potiki Hohepa, was fined £l5 and his license cancelled until May 31, 1929. The police stated that accused and another man left their home in the country and stopped at an hotel where they had a number of drinks. They then came to town and had more liquor and the car accused was driving almost knocked a person down. Accused was actually driving when arrested at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The. Magistrate, Mr Lewy, commented on the danger to the community and said that if nothing else would do he would have to apply the “no first offender” rule from now on, and he inflicted the penalties stated above.
