TRACK RACING THRILLS

MOTOR-CYCLISTS’ ESCAPES. A miraculous escape from death thrilled spectators at Brooklands a few weeks ago when, in one of the British Motor Cycling Club events, W. A Colgan, travelling at 100 m.p.h., got into a terrific skid on his first lap while on the Byfleet banking. The machine gradually ascended the rise and realizing that it was going over the top, Colgan flung himself off and rolled down the concrete, while his mount careered on and leapt over the top into the bushes. The rider merely tore his leather clothing. At the Crystal Palace motor-cycling competitions, about the same time, Gus Kuhn also had a remarkable escape, his machine skidding as he was nearly overtaking another rider. Kuhn was thrown off and turned three complete somersaults, but was uninjured.
