ENGINEERING TRADES

NEW AWARD SOUGHT. (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, June 26. Demands for a new Dominion agreement by the Amalgamated Engineering and Allied Trades Union were before the Conciliation Commissioner, Mr Hagger, to-day. The Union asked for a 40 hours’ week to be worked on five days of the week, increased pay and amended conditions of work. The employers offered the terms of the old award with some amendments.

It was agreed after a discussion, partly in committee, that the present award be allowed to run until November 5. It was suggested that in the meantime steps might be taken towards a comprehensive award to cover all skilled trades in the iron industry.
