LATE SPEAKER’S DECISION. (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, June 25. It is announced that the King, having been graciously pleased to express a wish to confer the dignity of a Peerage on the late Speaker of the House of Commons, the Hon. R. J. Whitley, has allowed Mr Whitley to decline the honour for personal reasons. A knighthood has been conferred on Colonel Verney, secretary to the Speaker. —British Official Wireless.
