. MEETING OF MAIN COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the main com< mittee of the Southland War Funds Association was held on Monday. Present: Messrs J. S. A. McDougall (Bluff), C. Bennet (Gore), A. H. Cockburn (Mataura), H. E. Niven (Edendale), F. G. Hall-Jones (Invercargill), K. G. McKenzie (Fortrose), F. M. Murray (R.S.A. Gore), D. McDonald (Limehills), Rev. J. Chisholm (R.S.A. Invercargill), Rev. G. H. Lawrence (Lumsden). Mr McDougall presided. The chairman welcomed the Rev. G. H. Lawrence who had been recently appointed as representative of Lumsden.

A statement showing the financial position to date was submitted by the secretary as follows:—lnvestments, £31,270; advances outstanding £4197 11/-; receipts since last meeting, £346 17/-, being refunds £332, and rents £l4 17/-. The expenditure for the month amounted to £648 16/8, being relief grants £270 5/9, advances £276 1/-, other expenses £lO2 9/11. Excess of expenditure over receipts, £3Ol 19/8. The current account showed a credit of £324 1/4,

The report of the emergency committee was reviewed and cases disposed of, after which a number of fresh applications were dealt with, grants and loans amounting to £216 10/- being authorized for payment. It was decided to forego the monthly meeting in July and to hold a quarterly council meeting on Monday, August 20.
