TRUCKS DERAILED

ACCIDENT NEAR DUNEDIN. INQUIRY TO BE HELD. (Per United Press Association.) Dunedin, June 20. The afternoon goods train from Oamaru was derailed on Saturday between Mihiwaka and Port Chalmers. On one of the many curves an empty waggon near the engine left the rails, dragging others, with the result that the couplings broke and six waggons rolled down into a gully. The engine and tender remained on the line, also the back portion of the train, which included one carriage with the Anderson’s Bay school football team. The through express from Christchurch, timed to arrive at 4.18, was held four hours at Purakanui while the line was cleared and did not pull out for Invercargill till 9.15. The cause of the derailment is unknown. A departmental inquiry will be held this week.
