HOCKEY

SATURDAY’S GAMES. COLLEGIATE DEFEATS ROSEDALE. The weather was fine for the opening games in the third round of the ladies' Hockey competition on Saturday. The ground was wet and muddy and did not lend itself to good play. On No. 1 ground Collegiate defeated Rosedale by four goals to one. lhe teams were: Collegiate' M. Edgar; I. Burrell, Madge Kilby; N. Thomas, Myrtle Kilby; Madge Mclntyre, J. Winsloe, Mary Mclntyre, K. Murray, E. Burrell. Rosedale: Mrs Blakely; A. Fearn, K. McDonald, L. Wills, R. Pratt, N. West; R. Wells, L. Baird, B. Savory, M. Davis, I. Hardy. From the bully Miss McDonald secured for Rosedale and put her supporters in an attacking position The movement, however, was nullified by a misplaced shot out of touch by Miss Davis. The play which i followed was uninteresting though at times both teams displayed dashes ol good solo play, more noticeable among the Rosedale girls. After a shot from the stick of Miss Winsloe had been diverted by the Rosedale goalie the ball returned to the ruck and after several of the Collegiate forwards had handled Miss Mary Mclntyre was successful in goaling with a neatly placed shot. Before the half-time whistle sounded the same player again goaled receiving support from Misses E. Burrell, K. Murray and N. Thomas in that order. The first goal in the second half was secured by Miss Winsloe who broke through unsupported from the twenty-five line to score a good goal. Miss Hardy, the speedy Rosedale winger, secured from the bully and raced up the line to put Miss Davis in a scoring position. This accomplished she passed in and Miss Davis ended the movement by scoring with a good shot. A short time after the bully Miss Mclntyre, through the agency of Misses I. Burrell and Myrtle Kilby, found herself in a scoring position and gaining possession attempted to goal. The Rosedale goalie cleared but before she could recover Miss Mclntyre had goaled. This made the final scores: Collegiate 4; Rosedale 1. Mr. E. H. Battin refereed. UNION DEFEATS INVERCARGILL. On No. 3 ground Union defeated Invercargill by 12 goals to 1. For Union Misses W.
