COAL EMBARGO
POSITION IN FRANCE. (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) London, June 13. Questioned regarding the embargo on the importation of coal into France, the Parliamentary Secretary for the Department of Overseas Trade, said that the decree issued on May 25 prohibited, importation into France from June 1, of coal, coke, lignite and patent fuel, except under license, but a general license had been issued for the importation of coal for cokeing plants. The operation of the decree was subsequently postponed until June 10. The British Ambassador had made strong representations against the measure and had specially urged that existing contracts should be respected.—A. and N.Z.
