Mr Percy Shaw returned to Invercargill from Dunedin last evening. Mr T. O’Byrne returned to Invercargill by the express last evening. Sergeant D. J. Hewitt was a passenger to Christchurch yesterday by the through express.

Mr E. A. Rosevear (Dunedin) was a passenger to Invercargill by the express last evening.

Dr Kidd (Superintendent of the Waipiata Sanatorium) arrived in Invercargill last evening. Mr R. F. Crawley, Railway Signal Instructor for the South Island, is at present paying an official visit to Invercargill. He will leave for the north by the through express to-morrow.

At a meeting of the Gore Chamber of Commerce held last evening advice was received that Mr A. T. Newman had been appointed as an additional representative of the Town Council on the executive. The Minister of Defence (the Hon. F. J. Rolleston) has received advice that L. V. Wells, D. 5.0., R.N., has been selected by the Admiralty to succeed J. S. M. Ritchie, R.N.. whose term as Commander on the H.M.S. Diomede expires in October, states a Press Association message.

The death of the late Mr Edward Parker at Invercargill recently was referred to by the Mayor (Dr. J. Torrance) at the meeting of the Bluff Borough Council last evening. Dr. Torrance stated that deceased had been a respected citizen of Bluff for a number of years and though many councillors were possibly not aware of the fact, he had been on the Council at one period. A motion of condolence with his only remaining relative, a son, was carried, councillors standing.

At the weekly practice of the Invercargill Male Choir held in the Y.M.C.A. rooms, Tay street last evening, the president of the choir, Mr R. H. J. Camm made feeling reference to the passing of one of the choir’s oldest members, the late Mr C. Parker. Mr Camm said that Mr Parker joined the choir practically from its inception and had been an enthusiastic member and was always interested in the work of the choir. As a mark of respect and in remembrance of the late Brother Parker, the members stood in silence.
