GARAGE GUTTED
FIRE AT PALMERSTON NORTH. GOOD WORK BY BRIGADE. (Per United Press Association.) Palmerston North, October 29. Fire shortly before 2.30 this morning gutted the motor garage of Messrs Gokiingham and Beckett, also a shop next door occupied by W. Hardley, electroplater. The outbreak was preceded by an explosion. Hardley’s shop is owned by D. O’Reilly, plumber and is insured with another portion in the same block for £BOO. Hardley’s stock and plant were insured for £5OO. Both garage and shop were badly damaged. The brigade did smart work in confining the flames to both premises. Inside the garage were three cars and three lorries, which were all more or less damaged. Insurances on the vehicles were £3950 and the stock and plant in the garage is not covered.
