FARMERS’ UNION. (From Our Correspondent.) There was only a small attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Farmers’ Union. Mr A. M. Robertson (president), occupied the chair. A good deal of correspondence was received from the Wellington executive, most of which was held over for a fuller meeting. The delegate to the Southland executive meeting at Invercargill reported on the business transacted. One matter was the sending of delegates up to the conference of Otago freezing companies and farmers at Dunedin. Another subject was the formation of a ladies’ union at Invercargill, which the executive decided to support. METHODIST CHURCH. The members of the Gore Methodist Church and party gave a concert in the Horticultural Hall on Tuesday in aid of the Mataura Church funds. There was a small attendance, but an appreciative audience listened to a very fine programme of anthems, solos and recitations. The programme was as follows: Anthem “How Beautiful Upon the Mountains,” “Seek Ye The Lord,” “Bow Down Thine Ear” and “Now the light of Heaven is Stealing.” The choir was ably conducted by Mr G. F. Mirams. Solos, “Paddy’s Perplexities,” “Cart Load of Hay,” Mr Courtis; recitations, “The Picture Show,” “A Billet Doux,” Miss Clare Day; duet, “Garden of Your Heart” and “Good Night Pretty Stars,” Misses Hinchey; violin solos, “Gallop” (Bohn), “Spanish Dance,” “Melody in F” (Rubenstein) ; solos, “Enoshima,” Ballad of Saloam, Miss Breen; solos, “Old Barty,” “To-morrow,” “The Gay Highway,” and “The Tavern Song”; solos, “In An Old Fashioned Town,” and “Tatters,” Miss Tayles; recitation, the Rev. Hocking. The accompaniments were played by Misses Dewar, Duncan, Graham and Mr Mirams. The Mataura Kilties Band played a selection outside the hall prior to the commencement of the concert.
