THEFT CHARGES
SEAMEN BEFORE COURT. “A DRUNKEN ESCAPADE.” (Per United Press Association.) New Plymouth, June 16. “It was just a drunken escapade. They are making a mountain out of a molehill just because Fm a stranger here,” said Thomas Ryan (occupation, cook on the schooner Margaret Sterling), when charged in the Magistrate’s Court with the theft of a gold watch and chain, valued at £27, 10 shirts at 12/6, overcoat £5, cardigan £l, and razor 12/6 from the Breakwater Hotel. He was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment.
