GOLF. - (From Our Correspondent.> Following is the draw for the next round of the championships, all games to be played on or before June 23: Ladies.—Miss W. Arthur v. Miss McArthur, Mrs Miller v. The monthly meeting was held is the Board Room on Monday evening, when the following Commissioners were present:— Messrs W. A. E. H. Fraser (chairman), F. H. Hill, R. Scatter, W. J. Wesney, R. Bird, and Mrs Cuppies. The secretary Southland League wrote regarding the following matters: (1) Acknowledging receipt of the annual contribution of £l5; (2) forwarding copy of report of the conference with Southland M’s P.; and (3) asking that the board’s representative to the quarterly conference and to the League’s Executive, be appointed.—The chairman was appointed as representative to both offices. Permission was granted to the Otautau Saleyards Company to remove a hut on the street line on usual conditions. Circulars regarding Merryweather’s fire pump were forwarded by Reid and Reid. It was decided to instruct the surfaceman to trim the hedge surrounding Hodgkinson cemetery. A petition was received from R. B. Collett and other residents in Huhne street to have the footpath from the railway crossing to the Recreation Ground gravelled.—Request granted, surfaceman to do the work. A complaint was received that petrol tins were accumulating at the garage at north end of Queen street, and were becoming a nuisance and a danger to riders of horses.— The clerk was instructed to instruct the occupiers that the tins must be removed, and that they must be deposited elsewhere in future. It was resolved to leave the question of fencing at the Soldiers’ Memorial to the discretion of the Otautau Progressive League. The application of F. J. Best for a reduction of rent of a municipal section was declined. In connection with the request of F. J. Best for the erection of an electric light at corner of Queen and Rochdale streets, the board decided to make a general inspection of unlighted streets on Monday afternoon with a view to determining an extension of the street lighting system. It was further resolved that the street lights should be switched on at five o’clock for the next two months. •» The clerk was instructed to obtain particulars of rates and conditions for “community lighting” from the Southland Electric Power Board, under which business men can combine to take current for the outside lighting of their premises. A schedule of tables showing half-yearly payments, inclusive of interest and sinking fund of loans for workers’ dwellings was forwarded by the Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs. Certificates for the issue of licenses for Otautau hotels were forwarded by the Clerk of the Licensing Court. A concession in the.rent of the hall for a series of engagements was asked for by Rev. L. Snell, St. Andrew’s Vicarage, and it was resolved to grant a rebate of one night’s rent for the term. A letter was received from Mr. J. H. Thomas stating that he had complied with the conditions of the lease of the old Town Hall, and it was decided that the clerk write Mr. Thomas asking him to show evidence of painting during the time he has had it leased. It was resolved to offer by public auction a seven years’ lease of the old Town Hall on Friday, July 9, at 3 p.m., Messrs J. R. Mills and Son to conduct the sale, and the conditions of lease to be drawn up by the board’s solicitor. A cheque for £5l 14/-, the Town Board’s proportion of motor lorry license fees, was forwarded by the Town Clerk, Invercargill, who also asked for particulars of the unimproved rating value of the town district, in order that the Town Board’s proportion of expenses in connection with the recent Supreme Court judgment regarding the Southland Electric Power Board rating powers might be apportioned. The poundkeeper reported that he had impounded five head of cattle in April and 36 head in May. A cojm| of the report on three licensed hotels, which was satisfactory was received from the Health Inspector. The application of W. Carton for a building permit for a concrete store in Main street was granted. D. C. Sutherland offered to lay the concrete tops on street crossings at 5/- each.— Accepted. It was left in the hands of Mr. Scatter to negotiate with Mr. Sutherland to complete a concrete footpath opposite the Soldiers’ Memorial.
