On a charge of assaulting and robbing a Japanese at Tikitiki against two natives, Kareamea Tuhaka and Parekura Haenga, the Jury returned a verdict of not guilty and prisoners were discharged. AUCKLAND SESSION. ' Auckland, June 15. In the Supreme Court, John Ewart, who pleaded guilty to forgery at Papakura, while an employee of a bank, was sentenced to be detained at Waikeria for reformative treatment for a term not exceeding two years. Mr Justice Stringer said the prisoner was a young, unmarried man, with a fair education and considerable ability. He was in a position of trust, and received a substantial salary, but he stole from his employers a considerable sum and fled from New Zealand with the proceeds of his dishonesty. His crime was designed and deliberate, and carried into effect by a very crafty forgery.
