WOMAN DROWNED

TRAGEDY AT MATAURA. BODY RECOVERED IN RIVER. A sad drowning accident occurred at Mataura on Monday afternoon. A married woman named Effie Ann Smaill was last seen about- 3.30 o’clock in the afternoon, when she went to throw some ashes into the Mataura River. It was presumed that she fell into the river, and dragging operations were conducted by the police all night without result. Yesterday afternoon at 1.45, however, the body was recovered. Mrs Smaill, who was about 40 years of age, leaves a husband and two children, residing -at Mataura.
