NATIONAL DAIRY SHOW
OPENING DAY. JUDGE'S COMMENT. (Per United Press Association.) Palmerston North, June 15. Heavy showers dogged the few visitors who presented themselves at the gates on the opening day of the National Dairy Show to-day. The judge of the honey, Mr Earp, said that although parts of New Zealand had experienced a small honey crop this year on the other hand Taranaki and Manawatu had had an excellent season. He commented that the export cases were not up to the export standard of perfection. To assist district apiarists the department had transferred an instructor to Palmerston North. Of the photography display the judge, Mr A. S. Mitchell, of Wellington, was enthusiastic, especially of the open class. The home and cooking classes were also highly praised by the lady judges. The collection of vegetables was described by Mr L. B. Webster, of New Plymouth, as an education to all. The display of potatoes proved that with a little more care and attention the North Island could become self-supporting in this commodity, although certain varieties could be eliminated with advantage.
