Owing to the lack of sugar, the result of the coal strike, 1000 confectioners have been dismissed from the various works.—A. and N.Z. SHIPPING MOVEMENTS. POSITION AT AUCKLAND. CONGESTION AT NEWCASTLE. (Special to the Times.) Auckland, June 15. As a result of the settlement in the Australian colleries dispute a number of the Union Company steamers which have been laid up at Auckland waiting settlement will shortly sail from this port. The first of these steamers to leave Auckland will be the Kaitoke which is announced to sail for Newcastle at mid-day tomorrow. Other vessels which are expected to be recommissioned and dispatched for Newcastle at an early date are the Waitomo, which has been anchored off Orakei for some months, the Waikawa, the Kaikorai and the Kekerangu. Now that the strike is over it is certain that there will be an exceptionally heavy influx of shipping at Newcastle. This will include not only steamers from New Zealand but also from all the main ports on the Australian coast. It is therefore likely that vessels loading for the Dominion will have to wait their turn on the loading berth. After the departure of the Kaitoke to-morrow the sailings from Auckland will be made as the position improves.
