HALF-HOLIDAYS. To the Editor. Sir, —Per medium of our papers one is led to foresee the termination of Wednesday half-holiday. I notice several of the leading firms are closing in spite of the outcome of the last election. The question now arises whether their action is sanctioned by law, and if it is, wherein lies the necessity for any election whatever. Wednesday was carried as our statutory half-holiday in what we believe to be a lawful poll. Sir, I, together with all supporters of Wednesday half-holiday, would be pleased to obtain enlightenment to both the following questions:—ls an election backed by law, or is the action of those who wish to change the day the outcome of connivance on the part of the powers that be?—l am, etc., SUPPORTER OF WEDNESDAY HALFHOLIDAY.
