HOKONUI NOTES
(From Our Correspondent J The Debating Club opened their season this year with a concert and dance which was held on Friday, June 4. A very large crowd of people were present some of them coming from Invercargill. The concert was a decided success and the audience showed their appreciation by the repeated encores. Songs were given by Misses E. King and S. Mclndoe and Messrs R. Mcßae, A. Clark, A. Brown and J. McMaster. Pagpipe selections by Mr M. Watson, recitation by Miss M. Galt, dance, Miss R. Smith, Maori haka, Mr T. Fisher. The accompaniments were played by Misses E. King, B. Brown and Mclndoe. After the concert’ supper was handed round, the catering being in the capable hands of Mrs Gill, Winton. Dancing was then proceeded with and a happy hour or two was passed. Mr J. Smith made a very capable M.C. and the musicians, Mr J. McMaster and Miss B. Brown played in their usual efficient manner. Extras were played by Miss E. King, Mr D. Brown and Mr M. Watson. The club will meet every Tuesday fortnight, the next meeting on June 15, taking the form of a progressive euchre party and dance to follow. The club members are looking forward to a big attendance at all their meetings and hope to finish up at the end of the year with a substantial credit balance. At the annual meeting Mr J. Wilson was appointed chairman, Mr R. Mcßae and Miss C. Galt, joint secretaries, Mr J. Davidson treasurer, Messrs G. King, N. Clark, D. Anderaon and D. Mcßae, vice-presidents.
