WYNDHAM NOTES

(From Our Correspondent.) On Thursday evening a gift evening was held in the Wyndham Methodist Church, when there was a large gathering present, including several visitors from the surrounding districts. Rev. Malcolm, who occupied the chair, opened rhe evening with a prayer, after which he explained to the gathering that the object in view was to start a guild and that later in the year it was proposed to hold a bazaar in aid of the church improvements. The speaker mentioned that it was very gratifying to see such a large number present and he felt sure that the ladies of the guild would be very pleased with ail the beautiful gifts. The following items were contributed and very much appreciated:—Misses Hawthorne (Edendale) pianoforte duet; Miss Smith (Edendale) song; Reona Milne, recitation; Mrs H. Kiddy, song; Mrs Donnelly and Mrs Kiddy, piano and violin duet; Mrs R. M. Johnstone, Scotch reading; Miss Iris Lister, pianoforte solo; songs by Miss L. McGuire, Mr and Mrs Kiddy, Rev. Malcolm, and Loraine Cook. Recitations by Mavis Macanearny, May Thompson, W. Thompson, Mrs Malcolm; accompanists, Mrs Donnelly, Mrs Kiddy, Miss B. Milne and L. Peacock. During the evening a competition was held, the prize being won by Miss E. Lindsay. Before the conclusion of the evening the chairman (Rev. Malcolm), on behalf of the members of the guild, thanked the nerformers and everyone who had in any way assisted to make the evening such a success and also specially thanked Mrs W. H. Johnstone and Mrs J. Dodd. He mentioned that it was very pleasing to note that £2 7/- had been received in cash donations besides all the gifts of work. ST ANDREW’S SCOTTISH SOCIETY. A very successful euchre party and dance was held in the Town Hall pn Friday evening by the St Andrew’s Scottish Society. It had been the intention of the society to hold competitions on this night, but owing to the lack of entries it had to abandon the idea and a euchre party and dance was held instead. Quite a large attendance was present and a very enjoyable evening was spent at the card tables. The prizewinners were (ladies), Mr A. H. Jones; (gentlemen), Mr J. Young. The winners of the consolation prizes were (ladies), Mrs J. Young, and (gentlemen) Mr J. Marshall. The music for the dance was supplied by Mrs Leckie' (piano) and Mr G. Leckie (violin). Mr Duncan Todd had charge of the floor and kept the dance swinging merrily throughout.
