BASIC WAGE
INCREASE IN AUSTRALIA.

According to figures compiled by the Commonwealth Bureau of Census • and Statistics based on retail prices of food, groceries and rent for the quarter ended March 31 increases in the basic wage take effect in all States from to-day. The increases vary from four shillings weekly in Perth to a shilling at Adelaide and Melbourne. The basic wage now varies from 13/1 daily and £4 1/6 weekly at Perth to 14/7 and £4 11/6 at Sydney, where the increase waj two shillings.—A. & N.Z.
