TRAIN WRECKERS

ANOTHER OUTRAGE BOTTLE HURLED AT DRIVER A CLOSE SHAVE (Per United Prem Association.) Palmerston North, April 6. When the train to Palmerston North from Napier was nearing Terrace End station last night one of two men standing on the side of the track threw a bottle containing liquid at the driver of the train, missing his head by inch'es. The bottle struck the upper ledge of the engine cab, at the back of Driver Lewin’s head, smashing to pieces on the ironwork. The men were not under the influence of liquor as they were seen running swiftly away. The smell of the liquid from the bottle was somewhat similar to alcohol, yet it was not like any alcoholic beverage in appearance. The train at the time of the incident was travelling at about 30 miles an hour.
